How to Survive a Music Festival

Festivals are a marathon for your mind as much as your body. How to protect your peace while dancing all weekend ⬇️

The music is loud, the energy is high, but festival burnout is real. Overstimulation can turn a dream weekend into a stress spiral fast. Prioritizing your mental health doesn’t mean ruining the fun—it’s how you make sure you actually enjoy every minute.

If you want to keep your vibe high and your mind grounded:

    1️⃣ Prepare and Protect Yourself

    • Be prepared for BOTH rain and sun! Sunscreen is still necessary even when it’s cloudy.
    • If you are camping alone, bring tent locks and a loud whistle.
    • Lock up your medications and important valuables inside your tent and never bring them inside the festival grounds.
    • Mentally prepare yourself for things to go wrong. Flights get delayed, rain gets stuff wet and lightning causes music delays, shit just sometimes happens. The set you were looking forward to the most might not happen, and that’s ok. Explore, find a cool new artist you might like!

    2️⃣ Eat, Sleep, and Recover

    • Fuel is extremely important when you push your body at a festival. I always camp with lots of snacks because it’s sometimes hard for me to eat large meals at festivals. I recommend bringing a protein powder of your choice in individual serving sizes.
    • Blister packs and multiple pairs of socks help save your feet after days of dancing.

    3️⃣ Clean Body, Clear Mind

    • Portable showers can be very compact and depending on how advanced you want to get, they can feel like a real shower.

4️⃣ Less Clutter = Less Panic

    • Stay organized while packing and unpacking, you’ll thank me later when you can actually find your vape.

    5️⃣ Pace Your Battery

    • You don’t have to see every artist. If you feel overwhelmed, find a quiet area, sit down, drink water with electrolytes, and reset.
    • Meeting up with friends is important at a festival, however, you are there to listen to music first and foremost. If trying to meet up with friends is taking you away from the music, then maybe skip the meetup.
    • Take lots of sitting breaks and consider bringing a blanket or pillow for when you want to sit down.

Personal Hygiene Hacks for Music Festivals

Music festivals are generally messy, and the shower lines can get really long, but keeping clean and staying fresh is an essential part of enjoying a festival. I’d like to list some of my new favorite personal hygiene products that I’m using this festival season.

Wipes of any kind are super handy at festivals, but these two wipes are my favorite. The sanitizing hand wipes have a refreshing smell that helps you feel extra clean and the eucalyptus helps cool you down. Carpe is a great deodorant brand and I know several people that swear by it. Their underarm wipes are great for a mid-day refresh before heading out for the night-time fun.

This all natural, aluminum free and plastic free deodorant balm is a unisex deodorant that actually works! I personally love the cedar and eucalyptus scent. I also find having tissues handy is clutch at a festival. These “snap & go” containers keep the tissues dry in the rain and each tissue is easy to remove individually.

Brushing your teeth and washing your face at the beginning and end of each festival day is super important. Brushing your teeth helps keep bacteria from developing in your mouth and can help keep your immune system strong. I love these compressed towels because they are disposable and you can easily wash your face with a fresh towel every time.

Festivals can be overwhelming for every sensory input. Its important to remember to once in a while find a dark, quiet corner, and mentally rest. But sometimes getting in the right relaxing headspace can be difficult at a festival with so much noise. Thats why I like using aromatherapy to help me decompress from the world around me and it helps me when I’m feeling over stimulated.
